I just finished working on a production order of 50 clear and white soap dishes for a hotel, and projects like this always keep me on my toes. While I’ve made many soap dishes over the years, this particular style is one of the more labor-intensive ones I create. Unlike my typical two-layer designs, these require a more complex build—five pieces of glass for the top layer and one for the base. Each piece is individually cut and carefully cleaned before being assembled for the full fuse. After firing, the dishes are then slumped into their final form, transforming them into durable, functional pieces ready for everyday use.

Slumping is where these pieces really come to life. After the full fuse, I place each blank into a soap dish mold and fire it again, allowing the glass to gently soften and take on its final shape. It’s a slower, more controlled process than fusing—I’m watching how the glass relaxes into the mold, making sure the edges stay smooth and the form is just right. This step transforms a flat piece of glass into a functional, durable soap dish, and it’s always satisfying to see that final shape emerge from the kiln.

Here they are, all finished and ready for packing. There’s something so satisfying about seeing a full production order come together—each piece consistent, clean, and ready for its new home. The combination of the soft white center and clear edges gives them a simple, elegant look that works beautifully in any setting. Now it’s time to carefully pack them up and send them off, knowing they’ll be used and enjoyed every day. That’s one of my favorite parts of production work—creating something both beautiful and functional that becomes part of someone else’s space.

As always, I included a small gift with their order—something I truly enjoy doing as a thank you. This one is one of my favorites, featuring grey, black, and clear glass with a strip of white that ties in beautifully with their dishes. It felt like the perfect addition, especially since it works so well as a soap dish too. I believe those small, unexpected touches make all the difference. It’s not just about completing an order—it’s about creating something special and leaving a lasting impression.

Completing this order has been such a rewarding process, from cutting and assembling each piece to seeing them all finished and ready to ship. Projects like this remind me why I love working with fused glass—combining creativity with purpose to create something both beautiful and functional. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to create for others, and I hope these pieces bring a touch of elegance and enjoyment to their space for years to come.
