Glass Art with Heart: Creativity and Community in Action

For my last blog of the month, I wanted to share something close to my heart. I love donating my glass to worthy causes, and this month, one of my students shared a wonderful opportunity with me. She was organizing a fundraiser to help provide groceries for dinners served at the Ronald McDonald House, a place that offers comfort and support to families with seriously ill children. As part of her efforts, she was teaching a mosaic class but mentioned that she was running low on glass supplies. I was so touched by her dedication that I knew I had to help. I happily donated some of my glass to ensure her class—and the fundraiser—could continue making a difference.

Needless to say, I quickly volunteered to donate some glass and a collection of glass dots. Dots are such a fun addition for mosaic projects—they make perfect centers for flowers and can be used in so many creative ways. I was thrilled to help her class have plenty of beautiful materials to work with.

Here are some photos of her students’ beautiful mosaic pieces, including decorated rocks and frames. It makes me feel so good knowing I was able to help raise $400 for such a worthy cause, while also giving these creative students more materials to bring their artistic visions to life.

Caren is incredibly talented and has taken several classes with me over time. She finally finished her fused glass fish, and didn’t they turn out perfectly! I absolutely love how she’s displaying them—complete with the charming little beach houses she painted herself.

It’s moments like these that remind me why I love working with glass and sharing it with others. Whether it’s helping a student complete a beautiful project, donating supplies for a good cause, or simply watching creativity blossom, it fills my heart with joy. Thank you for following along on my glass adventures this month.
