Turning Everyday Objects into Glass Art

One thing about being a fused glass artist — you start seeing opportunities to add glass to just about everything. I love incorporating glass into everyday objects like mirrors, nail files, spoons, business card holders, and anything else I can think of. It’s a fun way to turn something ordinary into something unique and artistic. Sometimes an item only needs a small piece of glass to completely change its look and give it a little personality. Here are just a couple examples of things I’ve added glass to recently.

These small decorative boxes are one of my favorite projects. The glass pieces on top are made using decals fused onto glass, which create beautiful, detailed designs in a very small space. I enjoy choosing different images and patterns because each one gives the box its own character. They’re perfect for holding small pills, mints, jewelry, stamps, or other little treasures. They also make wonderful gifts. For this batch, I fused the decals onto glass first and then attached the finished pieces to small plastic boxes. I’ll share more about my recent decal adventures in another blog soon

In addition to the little boxes above, I also added pressed glass pieces to these small round tin containers. I love how the glass instantly transforms a simple tin into something colorful and unique. Each piece of glass has its own personality depending on the colors, patterns, and shapes that emerge during the firing process. Some of these have soft blends of color while others have bold, bright accents. These little tins are perfect for holding small items like lip balm, mints, pills, or even tiny treasures you want to keep safe. They’re simple, practical, and just a fun way to add a little fused glass art to everyday objects.

What I enjoy most about projects like these is that they combine creativity with practicality. It’s fun to take something functional and add a touch of glass art to it. I’m always looking for new items that could use a little fused glass on top, so I suspect this collection will keep growing. After all, once you start adding glass to things, it’s hard to stop.
