Chasing the Light: Two Sides of Spring in Fused Glass

As spring approaches, I thought it would be the perfect time to share a couple of my fused glass suncatchers. For these pieces, I used transparent glass to really let the light shine through and highlight the vibrant colors and playful details. Each section catches the light a little differently, creating a beautiful, ever-changing display depending on where it hangs and how the sun hits it. It’s one of my favorite ways to bring a bit of color and joy into any space—especially after a long winter.

This second suncatcher has a completely different feel, with soft, flowing bands of color layered across the piece. The transparent glass allows each strip to gently blend into the next, creating a sense of depth and movement that reminds me of water, sky, and distant horizons. As the light passes through, the colors shift and overlap in subtle ways, giving the piece a calm, almost soothing presence. What I really love about this design is how simple layering can create such a beautiful effect. The slight variations in thickness and the organic edges from the slump add even more character, making each section feel alive. It’s a great reminder that sometimes less structure and more flow can result in something truly elegant and peaceful.

Working on these two suncatchers really reminded me how versatile fused glass can be. With the same materials—just a different approach to design—you can create something bright and whimsical or soft and serene. That’s one of the things I love most about glass: it never looks exactly the same twice, especially once the light gets involved. As the days get longer and the sun shines a little stronger, I can’t wait to hang these up and watch them come to life.
